272. Anon: Men Working Together! 1942.
Tough trio: soldier, welder and sailor, stand shoulder to shoulder united in an all out effort to win. Togetherness posters helped to foster what Bird and Rubinstein call “an atmosphere of unity and urgency.” Labor was cooperative throughout the war because of a tacit agreement not to strike during wartime.

Crippled Luftwaffe fighter smashes into the sea after being hit by anti-aircraft shells built by American workers, one of whom continues his essential work while echoing the poster's rhyming message. Vibrant color adds to the intensity of the image. Striking design.

275. Brindle: Bundles for Berlin 1942.
Poster’s title is a play on the title of a popular wartime campaign called Bundles for Britain which aided the English during the Blitz. Ground crewmen load bombs for the perilous trip to Berlin and back. Before they had fighter escorts out and back, bombing Berlin could be a nearly suicidal mission. This is an Air Force classic.

Haunting design portrays a world devoid of life under an apocalyptic sky. Very rare, privately printed by the Portland, Oregon Committee to Defend America by Aiding the Allies. Without Britain as a staging area, invading Europe would have been nearly impossible.

277. Iligan: Defense in the Air Begins of the Ground 1942.
Ronald Coleman look-alike hoists Old Glory above the clouds as planes roll out of hangers below. This poster was printed for the American Association of Manufacturers, an influential trade group. Their posters glorify industry as a patriotic endeavor.

Title borrowed from a speech given by Henry Wallace in 1942 in New York. Martin presents a call to arms, three of which (pun intended) are seen here. Wallace was FDR's V.P.

An emphasis on quality workmanship and attention to detail is the theme of production poster which pictures ordnance workers, highlighted in blue, and an artillery crew, highlighted in red, first making and then firing the same large-caliber artillery piece.

280. Vickery: "God Help Me If This is a Dud" - His Life Is in Your Hands 1942.
Exposing himself to enemy fire in a poster designed for posting in a munitions factory, a GI hurls a grenade at an unseen enemy position. Poster reminds workers that with the enemy only a stone's throw away his survival depends on their conscientiousness.

Vivacious volunteer strides ahead smartly. Red Cross flags stretched taut in the strong winds behind her add vibrant energy to this patriotic upbeat scene. Red Cross teams and nurses were at Pearl Harbor during the Japanese attack.

Americans of all ages, race and occupations untie in support of the Red Cross. Young man waves a large Red Cross flag above the dense throng. Young people were urged bring donations to Red Cross Officer. Supplemental supplies were sent to soldiers and POWs.

283. Schlaikjer: Your Red Cross 1943.
Uniformed volunteers were a soldier's guardian angels come to life. Red Cross medical staffs were active in front line hospitals in both world wars. Detailed style is characteristic of the Paris-trained artist. Schlaikjer, a Danish refugee, was the official War Depart-ment artist from 1942 until 1944.
