212. Andres: O’er the Ramparts They Watch 1948.
Handsome Marine corporal shoulders his M1 Garand as storm clouds gather behind him. Using a clever play on words taken from the National Anthem, the artist makes that point that the Marine Corps protects America in peace as well as war. Printed in small print run which makes it quite hard to find.

213. Guinness: Land with the U.S. Marines 1942.
Marine landing party, covered by air support, is shown nearing shore in a rubber landing boat. Only elite Raider reconnaissance units,rained to penetrate enemy territory by stealth, used rubber boats. Raiders first served at Midway as reinforcements.

The Marines have never had a problem taking on the most dangerous missions. Here go-get-‘em Gyrenes advance through the jungle of the southwest Pacific with glorious waving flags. This makes no tactical sense at all but adds vibrant color to this great gung-ho scene

215. Thomason: Let's Go 1942.
With a broad sweep of his arm, a Marine sergeant gestures to us hoping that we will be caught up in the enthusiasm his powerful stride and cocky confidence generate. Thomason was himself a Marine and author of the best seller Fix Bayonets, stories about the Marines in France and occupied Germany.

Female Marine stands before her gung-ho male counterparts. The Marines were the last service to create a Women's Reserve, activated in February 1943 with lingering reluctance.

217. Anon: Be A Marine.
Pretty sarge takes notes on the breezy tarmac. Although the poster implies that women in the Marines were somehow in touch with the action in fact jobs were assigned on the basis of 'appropriateness.' Class 1 included 'jobs in which women are better, more efficient than men, e.g. all clerical jobs.
